Brewery "Carlsberg"


One of the main attractions of Copenhagen is the Karlsberg Museum. It is based in a building in which once was located one of the largest breweries in Europe. Since the opening of the brewery "Carlsberg" almost 170 years have passed, but it is also interesting for thousands of tourists who come to Denmark from around the world.

History of the brewery

The Carlsberg brewery was opened in 1847 by the Danish industrialist and philanthropist Jacob Christian Jacobsen. He called her that in honor of his son. In 1845 it was Karl Jacobsen who showed his father a hill on which a brewery was later built. The Jacobsen family is one of the most respected in Denmark . Jacob Christian Jacobsen and his son, who later followed in the footsteps of his father and opened his own brewery, did a lot for their country:

It was at the behest of Jacob Christian Jacobsen that the famous Mermaid sculpture was created, which became the symbol of Denmark. As for the brewery, it was here that the yeast Saccharomyces carlsbergensis culture was obtained, which solved the fermentation problem of beer. Currently, Carlsberg beer is sold in 130 countries around the world.

What is interesting about the Carlsberg brewery?

Nowadays the brewery "Karlsberg" is a museum with an area of ​​10,000 sq.m. In all this territory there are exhibits affecting various aspects of the life of the plant. Here you can see a huge collection of bottled beer, brought from all over the world. The museum has expositions devoted to the life of employees of the brewery. In addition, you can carefully see the following exhibits:

The stable of the brewery "Karlsberg" deserves special attention. Here contain the horses of the Jutlans breed, for the preservation of which Jakob Christian Jacobsen fought. These heavy horse horses, distinguished by their massive body and strong legs, were used earlier for the delivery of beer barrels. Now the site is open on the territory of the museum, where you can see these heavy trucks in action.

There is a bar on the territory of the brewery, where you can taste up to 26 varieties of this old drink. By the way, the price of the ticket includes 2 mugs of beer. There is also a souvenir shop where you can buy bags, baseball caps and clothes with the "Carlsberg" logo.

How to get there?

The brewery "Carlsberg" is located in the capital of Denmark - Copenhagen . You can reach it by bus route 18 or 26, following to Gamle Carlsberg Vej. Near the brewery are opened the metro station Enghave and Valby, so that the path will not be difficult.
