The location of the uterus in the body

Uterus is a hollow smooth-muscular unpaired organ, which is intended for embryo growth and fetal bearing.

Where is the uterus located?

The uterus lies behind the bladder in front of the rectum in the middle of the small pelvis. On each side are the uterine appendages with ovaries.

How is the uterus located?

The location of the uterus is determined depending on how other organs are oriented next to it. Therefore, as an organ, it is quite mobile.

The longitudinal axis of this organ is normally located along the pelvic axis, that is, anteflexia. In the case of an inflection of the uterus to the back, the position of Retroflexion is indicated, when it is bent to the lateral pelvic wall - Leteroflexion.

The rectum and the filled bladder can tilt this organ to the position of anteversio (Anteversio) - forward. The uterus can also be turned posteriorly - the position of Retroversio and to the lateral pelvic wall - Lateroversio.

In some cases, the retroflexia of the uterus is a functional feature of the female body, that is, it is congenital. But usually this is caused by the weakness of the connective tissue, inflammation in the small pelvis, untimely emptying of the bladder and rectum, heavy physical exertion.

With retroflexia, a woman can feel pain during intercourse, menstruation, there may be problems with the irregularity of the cycle. Women with this diagnosis tend to normally get pregnant and then give birth, but sometimes this position of the uterus can prevent a woman from conceiving a child. In some cases, after the birth of the baby, the uterus may occupy a normal position.

The uterus can also rotate along the longitudinal axis, turn out or move. When displaced, the uterus can move back, forward, sideways or be low or high. In addition, it can generally fall out of the sexual slit.

The change in the position of the uterus can occur because of the pressure of the tumor, or because of the presence of adhesions in the pelvis, which attracts it in one direction or another.
