Museum of Sonobudoio

The museum is located in the heart of Yogyakarta . The design of the building was carried out by the famous Dutch architect Kersten. He kept in the layout of the building the best local traditions. In November 1935, the solemn opening of the Sonobudoyo Museum took place.

It preserves the cultural and historical heritage of the whole island . The total area of ​​the building is about 8000 square meters. The institution occupies the second place in the country (after the capital's National Museum ) in terms of the number of cultural artifacts.

Evening performance

Every day except for the resurrection in the Museum of Sonobudoio, the performances of the Indonesian shadow theater , which is called "Wyang-Kulit", are arranged. It involves puppets made by hand from animal skin. The plot for the play is a mythical story from the Ramayana.

The show starts at 20:00 and lasts until 23:00. During the play you can hear the singing of the soloist, performed under the orchestra of percussion instruments. The announcer will also tell you old legends. At this time, a snow-white canvas is stretched on the stage, on which the shadows of the puppets will be reflected. This creates an amazing show. You can see it from anywhere in the hall.

Features of visit

The Sonobudoyo Museum is open every day from 08:00 in the morning until 15:30 in the evening. Most of the exhibits have a description in English. The admission fee is $ 0.5. For an additional fee, you can hire a guide who will introduce you in more detail with the exposition.
