Temples of Rostov-on-Don

Appeared on the map of Russia in the middle of the 18th century, Rostov-on-Don today is known not only as one of the centers of industrial development. It is also the Orthodox center of the entire Don region. There are more than 40 active Orthodox churches in the city.

Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

For the first time the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin appeared in the city in 1781, but already in 1791 was a victim of a fire. Four years later a new cathedral was erected on the place of the burnt, also wooden, and in 1854 a stone church appeared to replace it.

Temple of the Icon of the Mother of God "Tenderness"

The history of the temple "Temptation" began in Rostov-on-Don in the late 90s of the 20th century, and found its present building a little later - in 2004. The icon, which became the title for the temple, once belonged to Seraphim of Sarov and is famous for its miraculous power.

Holy Kazan Cathedral, Rostov-on-Don

The Holy Kazan temple appeared on the map of Rostov-on-Don in 2004, when the construction of the church in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God was started with funds raised by the people's forces. Construction work was carried out for 3,5 years, and in 2007 the first service was held in the church.

Old Church of the Intercession

The history of the Old-Pokrovsky church is closely intertwined with the history of all Rostov-on-Don. According to the established opinion, this temple is the oldest church in the city, although in fact it is not so. It was laid in 1762 and for a long history twice destroyed. The modern building of the church was built in 2007.

Church of John of Kronstadt

The only student's temple in Rostov-on-Don was opened in 1992 at the University of Ways of Communication. Its modern building was built in 2004.

Demetrius Church

The Dimitriev church also belongs to the number built in the last twenty years. Its history began in 2001 with a conventional railway car, which became a temporary haven for the future church. In 2004, the construction of the church in memory of St. Dmitry Rostov was completed.
