Correction and prevention of strabismus

At the first signs of strabismus, it is necessary to carry out its correction; the prevailing view that strabismus passes with age is erroneous. If you do not address the elimination of strabismus in time, you can get many complications that are not compatible with the profession associated with visual work. In addition, refusing treatment, you can partially or completely lose sight.

Prevention of strabismus should start from a very early age:

  1. Hanging toys over the crib of the baby, make sure that their location changes at least once in 3-4 days. Place them at least 50 cm from the child's face and on different sides, so that the child's eyes do not focus at one point.
  2. Do not allow children 2-4 years old to draw or view pictures by burying themselves in an album or a book.
  3. Take care that the child does not overuse his vision during illness.
  4. Do not teach the child to read early and in small letters.

Vision is formed up to 25 years, so treatment should be continued until this age if necessary. With timely correction begun, the predictions of strabismus treatment are the most favorable. This applies to both children and adults. The main thing is not to forget to periodically check your eyesight from an ophthalmologist, especially in childhood and adolescence.
