Thromboembolism is an acute process of clotting of a blood vessel with a clot of blood - a thrombus. The disease occurs suddenly, and often leads to death or disability, because as a result of blockage, blood circulation in the body is disrupted.
Symptoms of thromboembolism
The manifestations of the disease, in the first place, depend on the location of the thrombus, as well as its size and volume of blocked vessels.
Symptoms of venous thromboembolism
Venous thromboembolism most often develops in the elderly, but cases of illness of pregnant women and patients with obesity , oncology, diabetes mellitus are not uncommon. It can complicate severe injuries, surgeries, infectious and purulent diseases.
Symptoms of thromboembolism of the lower extremities are:
- pain that increases with palpation;
- swelling of the limb;
- swelling of the veins and discoloration of the skin;
- increase in the temperature of skin surfaces.
The result of venous thromboembolism may be gangrene. In 1/3 of patients with venous thromboembolism, thromboembolism of the pulmonary artery develops.
Symptoms of arterial thromboembolism
Of arterial thromboembolism, the most dangerous are occlusion of the arteries of the brain, lung, liver, spleen, and mesentery.
Symptoms of occlusion of the vessels of the abdominal cavity are similar to those of the "acute abdomen":
- severe cutting pain;
- vomiting;
- general weakness.
For massive pulmonary thromboembolism, symptoms such as:
- lowering blood pressure;
- heart rhythm disorder;
- shortness of breath ;
- loss of consciousness.
With non-mild thromboembolism of the pulmonary artery, symptoms are erased. Attention is drawn to the following manifestations:
- pain accompanying breathing;
- cough with hemoptysis;
- increase in body temperature to 39 degrees.
When the arteries of the limbs are occluded,
- disappearance of the pulse;
- acute pain with simultaneous violation of skin sensitivity;
- swelling of the tissues, blanching, and in the future - cyanotic limb.
