The Signal Hill, or as it is also called Signal Hill, is one of the most famous mountains of the whole continent of Africa. About names and their meanings
In the old days the Signal Mountain and the rock formed something resembling a lying predator, so Signal Hill was sometimes called the Torso of the Lion. Later, the name Signal Mountain appeared, as until recently special flags had been attached to the slopes, warning seafarers of an impending storm. Nowadays, the flags are no longer used, but the name of the mountain is preserved.
What is unusual about Signal Hill today?
The main feature of Signal Hill is nowadays the Noon Gun guns, mounted on its top. They help the seamen to establish the exact time on the chronometers of the ships. The Noon Gun is administered from the South African Astronomical Observatory . To the top of the mountain is laid a road that gives panoramic views of the city and the surrounding area, which is best enjoyed in the sunrise or sunset rays of the sun.
Unusually, but the slopes of the Signal Mountain are inhabited. They are located a whole block called Bo Kaap, which is inhabited mainly by immigrant Muslims. They are friendly enough and willingly go to contact with tourists.
