Schizophrenia is heredity

Is schizophrenia transmitted by heredity? The answer to this question has been of interest to many scientists since the beginning of the last century. Genetic research is not only that they established and proved a fact confirming that this person is "rewarded" by that person who had patients in his family, but also established the heredity of schizophrenia. But only in the present, during the active development of nano-technologies, medicine has managed to do more detailed study of factors affecting the development of this problem.

Is schizophrenia inherited?

The most recent studies, including 12 institutes in the US, Australia, Europe, and 18 laboratories in China, the US and Europe, have shown that the heredity of a mental disorder is as much as 70%. It only remains to notice that this figure confirms that a close family member suffering from schizophrenia is sufficiently close to increase the likelihood of a baby with mental disabilities being born. Thus, the following data were obtained:

• 49% probability of hereditary schizophrenia, if it exists in one of the identical twins;
• 47% - one of the parents is sick, the grandfather or the grandmother, thus it does not matter on the male or female line the last;
• 19% is a risk of developing frustration for fraternization twins;
• 12% if a diagnosis of schizophrenia is made and one of the parents of the child, and, at the same time, one of the parents of the father or mother (grandfather or grandmother);
• 5% is found in the case when the schizophrenic is only one of the parents;
• 2% - mentally ill aunt or uncle;
• finally 1% if the cousin or sister is suffering from this ailment.

But, despite these figures, the data indicate that there is always a high probability of the birth of a mentally healthy child.

Continuing the conversation about schizophrenia as a hereditary disease, it is worth noting that it is transmitted one, a pair of genes, or, when the infant has a certain genetic predisposition to the impact on his mental health of a factor capable of causing the disease. The risk of transmitting schizophrenia by inheritance is proportional to the relationship of kinship to the number of people in the genus suffering from the disorder.

Young families planning to have children should, in case of any suspicion of having schizophrenia in the family, seek counseling from a psychiatrist. He, in turn, takes into account the hereditary causes of its occurrence, making a conclusion about whether hereditary schizophrenia is in the future offspring of the couple or not.
