Obstetrical pessary

As a rule, for the first time the word "pessary" is heard by a woman during pregnancy at a gynecologist's appointment. Pessary is designed to support the cervix, bladder and rectum, contributing to the reduction of excessive pressure on the internal organs. Its main function is to prevent ischemic-cervical insufficiency in pregnant women and reduce the risk of premature birth. In the case of multiple pregnancies, the pessary also promotes the preservation of pregnancy and the elimination of the development of pathologies of labor.

What does a pessary mother look like?

Obstetrical pessary unloading is a mechanical device in the form of a large ring surrounded by interconnected rings of small size. In everyday life, doctors use simply the word "ring".

Made of environmentally friendly materials, pessaries do not cause damage to soft tissues and allergic reactions.

How is the obstetric pessary set when the uterus descends?

The introduction of pessaries is a painless procedure due to its rounded shape. However, this procedure is unpleasant for a woman despite the ease of using pessaries.

Before the procedure for the introduction of pessary, it is necessary to treat existing infectious diseases of the reproductive system in order to avoid the development of complications in its use.

The procedure for entering the pessary is fast enough:

  1. The gynecologist performs ring treatment with glycerol or ointment clotrimazole.
  2. Manually inserts a ring in the vagina of a woman and fixes it on the cervix.

It should be noted that the use of pessary is not always possible. If a woman had spotting, with pessaries, they can increase, so its use is inappropriate because of the danger of terminating a pregnancy on a long term.

How to care for pessaries?

Special care for pessaries is not required. But every two weeks a pregnant woman needs to take an additional test for bacussis. Vaginal sex with pessaries is contraindicated.

Obstetric pessary removal

Every woman cares if it's painful to take a pessary. Depending on the pain threshold of the woman, in some cases, painful sensations may occur for a short time after extraction of the pessary.

Perhaps early extraction of pessaries in case of effusion in the woman of amniotic fluid and the beginning of labor, with the need for an emergency caesarean section according to the indications.

After removal of the obstetric ring before the onset of labor can take up to several weeks. Therefore, most often the pessary is removed at the term of 38 weeks of pregnancy.

Sometimes a woman can feel that the pessary has shifted. In this case, she notices the appearance of whitish discharge from the vagina (colpitis).

Obstetrical pessary is disposable, its repeated use is unacceptable.
