Mount Snowball

Czech Republic is not only beautiful Prague , the special charm of small towns and traditional beer. Description of Mount Snowball

At the very border between the Czech Republic and Poland are the Giant Mountains ( Giant Mountains ), their highest mountain part is called Sudet. And one of the tops of this mountain range and has such an original name - Snowball. It has a completely shale origin.

The Snezka Mountain is the highest point not only in the Czech Republic, but also in the Krkonoše Mountains, and Sudeten as a whole. The height of the peak is 1603 m, and its peculiarity is the slopes lying one on the side of the Czech Republic, and the second - of Poland. All of them up to the mark in 1250-1350 m are densely covered with forests. Further upward, mountain meadows and kurumniki (stone placers) begin.

In the XVII century, the mountain was anonymous and was considered only part of the Krkonoše massif (Snowy Mountains). Since 1823, the inhabitants of the Czech Republic call their highest point only as Snow Mountain - Sněžka. Although some historical documents mention that in the middle of the XV century it had the German name "Giant Peak".

What attracts Snowball?

The conquest of the mountain was first made in 1456, when one of the merchants of the city of Venice tried to find here precious stones and minerals. His works were not in vain and were rewarded: on the mountain Snezhka found deposits of copper, arsenic and iron. Tourists still come here today to visit galleries. Medieval miners built them thoroughly enough: more than 1.5 km of the tunnels are well preserved to the present day.

Connoisseurs of modern entertainment will be interested to know that the top is equipped with a modern ski resort . In the Czech Republic, the Snezka mountain is covered with snow for about 7 months of the year, which is guaranteed to allow skiing for six months. On the top of the daily work 22 lifts, which can carry up to 7500 tourists every hour. At the foot of the mountain many hotels of different class, restaurants and entertainment establishments are built.

At the very top is a hydrometeorological station, outwardly resembling a spaceship. Nearby is an ancient wooden chapel, built in honor of St. Vavrynets, and a modern post office. Hence, travelers are sent to relatives and friends a commemorative card with the stamp of Snowball.

How to get to the mountain Snezka?

The most beautiful option to get to the ski resort and admire the high marks of its surroundings is the cable car. It begins at the very foot of the slopes in the small town of Pec pod Sněžkou . On the Pink mountain, you make a transfer or a pause, and then you go further in the second stage.

Sports-prepared tourists climb Mount Snow on foot. For this purpose, several routes of different complexity have been developed.
