Kampa Island


The most beautiful island in Prague is Kampa. This is an elite and expensive place where there are hotels , restaurants, a wonderful park, historical buildings and various attractions that attract tourists.

History of formation

If you are interested in the question of where the island of Kampa is in Prague, then look at the map of the capital. It shows that the landmark is located at the confluence of the river Vltava and Chertovka, between 2 bridges: Manes and Legions. This is the historic center of the city, the Malá Strana district. Local residents call the attraction "Prague's Venice". The shores of the island were formed at the beginning of the 17th century as a result of the transported soil, charred logs and regular sediments from the river. The territory was strengthened and leveled, and then began to build up. Before that, almost no one lived there. Rich inhabitants were afraid of flooding, so craftsmen settled on the Camp. They installed water mills and held pottery fairs.

  2. House of Anna - famous for its balcony, thanks to which the city could avoid flooding. According to legend, in 1892 a woman was hiding on a loggia. She saw the icon passing by, the Mother of God passing by and picking it up, and then she began to pray fervently for the salvation of Prague. There was a miracle - the water receded.
  3. The narrowest street of the capital is equipped with a pedestrian traffic light. He was hanged specially for passers-by, as two people in the lane will not miss each other.
  4. Liechtenstein Palace - it was erected in a neo-Renaissance style. This is the official state residence, intended for foreigners for ambassadors and diplomats.
  5. The Kamp Museum is dedicated to contemporary art and is located in the restored Sowowa Mill complex. Here are exhibited works belonging to contemporary artists living in Eastern Europe.
  6. The Franz Kafka Museum is a mystical place, enveloped in the spirit of his works. The interior of the institution is made in dark colors, on the walls and stands there are black-and-white photographs, documents and manuscripts of the author. In the dark halls existential space reigns.
  7. Sculpture Infants - it is made in the form of crawling "Little Indians". The author of the monument is David Cherny. The same kids "crawl" along the vertical supports of the Zizkov Television Tower in Prague.
  8. March of penguins - figurines are made from recycled plastic bottles and are located by the river Chertovka. At night, objects are beautifully highlighted.
  9. Bridge of Lovers - come here newlyweds and romantic couples who hang on the bars of the lock. From here you can see the statue of Kaburek and the Velkoprazvor mill.
  10. House 7 devils - the very first building that appeared on the island. In honor of him, the river Chertovka was named.
  11. Kampa Park - there are often exhibitions of contemporary art. The territory of the park is planted with various trees and flowers, which are especially beautiful in spring and autumn.

Shopping

Particular attention of tourists is attracted by the market square, which has been operating on the island since the XVII century. Here you can buy unique souvenirs made by local craftsmen manually. You can watch their work in a specially designated place.

How to get to Kampa Island in Prague?

You can get here by the bridge of the Legions or by the passage from Maltese Square. Trams Nos. 6, 9, 22 and 23 go to them, the stop is called Hellichova. If you are in the historical part of Prague , then go to the Charles Bridge . Near it there is a staircase, descending on which, you will get to the island.
