Nussel bridge

At the same time, the Nusel Bridge became the pride and sad glory for the Czech capital. The highest and longest in the whole country, in addition to decorating the city, it is a favorite place for those who decided to take their own lives. Even people from other countries come here to commit suicide! The government of the country can not in any way influence this sad tendency.

History of the construction of the Nussel bridge in Prague

The day of the official opening of the bridge is February 22, 1973, but attempts to create its project began long before that - at the beginning of the last century. Initially, the bridge was named in honor of the country's president, Clement Gottwald, but in 1990 it was renamed Nusel - by the name of the locality in which it is located. In order for the bridge to connect several remote regions and the central part of the city, the government decided to demolish the whole area in the Nusel Lowland.

Specifications

The Nussel bridge in Prague has the largest length of all constructions of this type in the Czech Republic . Its length is just over half a kilometer with a width of 26 m. The height of the supporting columns is 43 m. The bridge is equipped with pedestrian paths that tower above the roadway on both sides of the road. The upper part of the building with six-lane traffic daily passes through itself thousands of cars. The lower tier is provided for the subway : this is where the branch C runs.

After construction, as a test, a column of tanks was used, which proved the strength of the structure. Tanks drove through the bridge, and then lined up in a row.

The only drawback of the structure for a long time was a low fence of meter height. Suicide bombers did not fail to take advantage of this. Subsequently, the fence was built up to a meter and a half, which, however, did not become such an obstacle, which the authorities expected, and suicide continues here.
