Dlouge the Country

A striking example of this statement is Dlouge Stane, a hydroelectric power plant on the expanses of the Jeseníky Reserve.

What is interesting for tourists?

If you are genuinely astonished by the fact that the existing hydroelectric power plant is put on one level with sights - do not rush to make hasty conclusions. Dlouge to the Country, which translates as "long slope" - a unique place. At one time, even here were filming one of the episodes of the movie novels about James Bond. There is a landmark among the Jesenikov mountain peaks, near the Velké Losiny ski resort, at an altitude of 1353 m above sea level.

On the territory of Dlouge, the Country conducts organized tours , telling about the principles of work, strategically important objects and showing popular science films about the power plant.

Tourists are available to review the engine rooms, which are two huge turbines, as well as upper and lower reservoirs with water. The cable car leads to the second one, but in order to "tear the cherry on the cake" and enjoy the incredible landscapes on the very top, you will have to walk about 4 km on foot or go by bike (minibus).

Principle of operation

Uniqueness of Dlouge to the Country consists in the fact that the power station is absolutely ecological. The energy here is produced by dropping water from the upper reservoir to the lower one, and then during the period of the least electricity consumption (usually at night), it is pumped back. By the way, the construction of a hydroelectric power station in this place made it possible to breathe a sigh of relief to the inhabitants of the nearest villages, which used to suffer regularly from floods.

How to get to Dlouge?

At the hydroelectric power station located on the territory of the reserve, you can get in the number of organized tours, or independently by car. To do this, from Prague, you need to follow the route D11. The journey takes about 4 hours.
