Lake Shasse


In the municipality of Ulcinj there is the majestic Shas lake, the second largest in Montenegro , having a glacial origin. It occupies almost 4 square meters. km, and during the spill is increased by one and a half times. The lake is located next to the ruins of the town of Swach (Shas) .

Why go to Shas lake?

Near the pond there are several options for recreation:
  1. Fishing. The depth of the lake is not very prominent - about 8 m maximum. However, this volume of water provides shelter for a huge number of underwater inhabitants. There are a lot of fish in the Shas lake, because fishermen from all over the world are not averse to throwing a fishing rod here.
  2. Birdwatching. In addition to fish, here lives a lot of birds - more than 240 species. These are cormorants, ducks, herons, geese and other birds, among which are both migratory and permanent inhabitants. For example, in Europe there are only about 400 species, the Shas lake in Montenegro is very attractive for ornithologists.
  3. Hunting. Tourists with binoculars and cameras all year round come here to watch the amazing birds in their natural habitat. It is allowed here and hunting in a certain season. Especially many people who want to shoot a woodcock come here from neighboring Italy.
  4. Picnics. In addition to ornithology, fishing and hunting on the picturesque shore, densely overgrown with reeds, you can simply settle with the company and have a picnic or go boating and admire the water lilies.

How to get to Shassky Lake?

It is not difficult to get to the lake, especially if you go here from Ulcinj . The town is located 20 km from the village of Shas. On the road E 581 can be reached in 30 minutes. Also, you can get here by water, as the lake is connected to the Bayana River by means of a canal 300 meters long .
