Coarse Rogotsie

On the outskirts of the Czech town of Turnov lies the castle of Hrubý Rohozec (Hrubý Rohozec). It is considered the oldest architectural monument in the region and attracts tourists with its unique collection. There are architectural elements belonging to different epochs.

History of construction

The palace was built in the Gothic style for the Markvartis family - Havel in 1280. It was located in a picturesque place on top of a cliff, at the foot of which flows the river Jizerou. Over time, the castle was the residence of various aristocratic families, which several times altered the structure:

From the middle of the 17th century, the Hruby Rogozes Castle served as the residence of the nobleman Albrecht of Valdstejn , and then transferred to Mikulas Dé Force. His descendants owned the building until 1945, until it was confiscated by the government.

What is the famous building?

Its modern appearance the palace received in the XIX century. It was built in the Empire style, designed by the famous Czech architect Jan Joendl. Some elements of the interior were also created during this period. For example, the walls and ceilings in the dining room are made in the spirit of romantic Gothic.

The State Castle Groby Rogozets is under the jurisdiction of the National Directorate for the Protection of Monuments. The palace is surrounded by an English park. It is home to rare trees and sculptures of the Saints cast in the 18th and 19th centuries. Near the entrance is an artificial cave.

In the palace you will see about 20 exquisitely decorated rooms. In the olden days, the descendants of the count's descendant Des Fors Valderode lived in them. The interior of the rooms tells the story of a noble family, which refers to the period of the First Republic (1918-1938).
