Kidney failure in dogs

Any disease of a pet that has become a member of our family is always very unpleasant. We are worried about this and worried about the health of our pet. One of such diseases in dogs is renal failure. It is a serious illness in which the kidneys stop coping with their functions, namely, to maintain the water balance in the body and remove toxins from it. The causes of kidney failure in dogs are very different. A significant role in the occurrence of this disease is given to genetics. In the group at risk are animals aged over five years. Almost half of the dogs that became ill with chronic kidney failure turned ten years old or more.

Signs of acute renal failure in dogs

In acute kidney failure in dogs, the blood flow in the kidneys is very sharp, the tissue is damaged, and the outflow of urine is disturbed. This happens with various poisoning and infectious diseases, including kidney disease, urolithiasis. Another cause may be a tumor and an enlargement of the prostate, sometimes liver disease and cardiovascular disease. Animals refuse to eat, they have vomiting or diarrhea , and sometimes urination stops completely. The dog looks weak and tired, and its mucous membranes become pale or slightly reddened, edema appears. If you notice that your pet has similar symptoms of the disease, you should always consult a doctor - timely treatment in a veterinary clinic will help to completely cure your dog.

Chronic renal failure in dogs

Chronic renal failure is dangerous in that it often occurs as a latent disease. The owner of the dog may not always notice slight deviations in the health and behavior of the animal. Blood tests, as a rule, are normal and only small deviations from the norm can show urinalysis or ultrasound. And when the signs of the disease become noticeable, it can be that stage of the disease, in which it is no longer possible to return the former health to the animal. In chronic renal failure, kidney function decreases slowly, killing of kidney tissues occurs and this can lead to complete cessation of their functioning. Although more often still there is an exacerbation of chronic kidney failure. At the very beginning of the disease the dog starts to get tired often, it lies much or sleeps.

There is a compensated stage of the disease and it is on it you can see the first signs of the disease. A domestic pet begins to consume fluids twice as much and, on this background, grows thin, and blood pressure rises. The kidneys of the animal work for less than half of their abilities with very frequent urge to urinate. The most severe manifestations of kidney failure are loss of appetite, vomiting and diarrhea. Rare cases of vomiting become vomit after each meal and drink and the animal is forced to abandon completely food. In the decompensated stage of the disease, the dog releases a lot of urine, but it still retains the desire to drink. But the terminal stage often leads to coma and the death of the animal.

Nutrition for dogs with kidney failure

The dog is better to feed often small portions of damp food. Near it there must always be a bowl of fresh water, and the diet with this disease must be protein-free with a low content of phosphorus and calcium. It is forbidden to feed the dog with bones, meat by-products, egg yolks and fish oil. When the tests are better, you can add egg white and boiled chicken breast. Products such as raw meat and egg whites are added gradually. It is useful to give the sick animal animal fried vegetables, semolina porridge and white rice sticky varieties.
