Sweden is rightly considered a mountainous country - there are more than a dozen peaks, whose height exceeds the mark of 2000 m. And the queen of Swedish heights is the mountain of Kebnecaise.
general information
Kebnecaise - mountain peak, located just north of the Arctic Circle (about 150 km), west of Kiruna. The mountain consists of 2 peaks:
- North - its height is 2097 m;
- the southern one is covered with ice and reaches a mark of 2106 m, being the highest point in Sweden and one of the highest in Scandinavia. Earlier, its height was 2123 m, but due to the melting of glaciers the tendency to decrease remains.
Tourism
In mountain tourism lovers, Mount Kebnecaise is very popular. There are many routes for climbers, including the Royal Road (Kungsleden) in its northern part.
The way to the top of the mountain is not considered easy: to climb it will require special equipment and physical training above the average. Season to conquer the peak of Kebnecaise is the period from July to September, the rest of the time the road is dangerous.
On the way to the top there is a tourist base offering a wide range of services for recreation . Here you can:
- a meal in the restaurant;
- replenish the food stock in a small shop;
- get warm in the sauna;
- rent a room;
- book an excursion ;
- make a photo on the background of the Kebnecaise mountain for memory.
On the territory of the base it is allowed to put up a tent, but on condition that it will not be located more than 150 m from the base huts.
How to get there?
Kebnecaise is part of the Abisko National Park . You can get to it from Stockholm in the following way:
- by plane from Stockholm airport ;
- by train - from the central station of the capital to the station of the city of Abisko;
- by car - from Stockholm to the town of Tore along the E-04 highway, then along the E-10 highway.
