Iglesia del Carmen is one of the most visited churches in Latin America, a true monument of Gothic architecture in the heart of the capital of Panama .

History of the Church
Iglesia del Carmen was open to the Carmelite parishioners, who settled in Panama in the 40s of the 20th century. In June 1947, the foundation stone of the future church was laid. Its construction lasted for six years, and the opening for visitors took place in mid-July 1953. However, this work on the construction of the cathedral has not yet been completed. Within 2 years after the opening of the Iglesia del Carmen, two towers were built, which became the main property of the external decoration of the church.
What is interesting about Iglesia del Carmen?
According to the idea of the architect Alberto Arosemena, this church was supposed to resemble the outstanding architectural monuments of the Spanish city of Toledo, built in the 14th century in the Gothic style. This is the only Gothic building in the whole of Panama .
The two towers symbolize the hands of man rushing up to God and the prayers that go upwards. Between them is a sculpture of the Virgin Mary with Jesus in her arms, reminding all visitors about who is dedicated to Iglesia del Carmen. Gothic style also expresses large windows in front of the church through which daylight passes and creates a special atmosphere of veneration of the Mother of God. The beauty of the cathedral is further emphasized by colored stained glass windows and powerful columns inside the building.
To appreciate all this splendor of Iglesia del Carmen is better before or after Mass, which are served here every morning at 6-7 hours and in the evening at 18 o'clock.
