How to treat a runny nose in a dog?

On the nose of a dog you can often determine the state of her health at the moment. Ideally, it should be wet and cold. For some breeds, the norm is a dry and warm nose. But if the nose became hot, crusts and small cracks appeared on it, this indicates a possible disease. It is necessary to sound the alarm in the event that the animal had a runny nose. Symptoms such as a runny nose in a dog may indicate the following problems:

  1. Infectious disease . The virus that got into the animal's body manifests itself as well as in the human body. There is an increase in temperature, an increase in lymph nodes, a decline in strength. A concomitant symptom is the appearance of mucous discharge from the nose, which the dog constantly lick.
  2. Foreign object . If you get into the nose of dust, smoke, pollen of plants or small pebbles, the inner surface of the nose becomes irritated because of which there is a runny nose. Treatment of a cold in a dog

Veterinarians are advised to begin treatment only if the runny nose does not pass for 3-4 days (acute form). In this case, there are several ways how to treat a runny nose in a dog:

  1. In the case of crusts, use a solution of hydrogen peroxide. He will soften them and disinfect the skin. To prevent the repeated formation of crusts, lubricate the nose with vegetable oil or petroleum jelly.
  2. Cavities of the nose 2 times a day, lubricate 1% menthol ointment, or prepare the preparation from a solution of soda and tannin. Please note that the concentration of soda and tannin should not be more than 1%.
  3. Dunk the cotton swab in the onion juice and attach it to the nostrils of the animal. In this case, an abundant discharge of liquid from the nose will begin, which will wash out the infection and foreign objects.
  4. For strong discharge use beet broth. Rinse your nose twice a day.
  5. For chronic discharge use Streptocide powder. Sprinkle them with the nose of the animal three times a day, and you will see how the skin will become less irritated.
