These animals belong to the family of lizards. The length of their body can vary from a few centimeters to two meters. Today we know of 650 species of iguanas, including basilisks. Inhabitants live mainly in the Western Hemisphere, and 14 species are listed in the Red Book.

These animals are distinguished by a variety of colors. They can be greenish-brown, blue-green and even bright orange. That's why many people want to get an iguana at home - a mini-copy of a mystical dragon. A long comb of spines-outgrowth along the spine, a picturesque "beard" and resonators - how to resist these amazing exotics? Moreover, the pedigree of these animals really originates from iguanodont - real tropical monsters of antiquity. Regarding the nature of iguanas, it is still as diverse as in humans. Some animals are a model of humility, while others are constantly trying to manifest aggression. In any case, it is not worthwhile for the first time to trust this predator too much. Let him first fully open, so that the temperament will cease to be a mystery. While cleaning the terrarium, try not to disturb the animal. If you provoke aggression, then the iguana can attack, and the model of behavior will eventually consolidate. A little later, when the pet gets used to you, you can get it out of the terrarium and even iron it.

Features of iguana content

The main thing that must be purchased for iguanas is a terrarium, and a large one. There must be a place for walks, a secluded corner for rest, and a mini swimming pool. In addition, iguanas need additional heating, which is provided by the lamps. Thermophilic animals feel comfortable at 24-31 degrees, but it will be fine if the terrarium has a place with a temperature of about 35 degrees. The temperature drop is necessary in order to ensure normal life and digestion of food. It will not be superfluous to have a tree for climbing, because the iguana leads a woody way of life in nature. For hours your pet will sit under a lamp on a snag, only occasionally turning his head.

In the terrarium to clean every day: clean the litter, change the pool water, wash the feeder and drinking bowl.

Great attention must be given to the nutrition of iguanas, which must be diverse. These exotics like to eat vegetables, fruits, fruit and vegetable salads, which can include oranges, carrots, apples, bananas, kiwi, grapes, pears and even fresh cucumbers and tomatoes. Several times a month the pet should be given cottage cheese and fresh meat. Iguanas are predators, so if you have the opportunity to get live rats or mice, then the joys the animal will not have a limit. It is worth noting, some iguanas prefer vegetables, and others - meat.

A prerequisite is the intake of vitamin complexes for reptiles. Iguanam vitally important vitamins such as D3, beta-carotene, B, calcium.

Diseases of iguanas

Young animals are quite painful. Often iguanas suffer from fungi and skin parasites. The fungus can be removed within a week if the affected area is lubricated every other day with mycosolone, a common antifungal ointment. And the treatment of iguanas from skin parasites is carried out with ointment "Rescuer". With age, iguanas are no longer so worried.
