Apron is one of the most necessary and practical things in every kitchen. It's hard to imagine a hostess preparing a dinner without an apron. Of course, the main qualities of this kitchen assistant are practicality, convenience, a successful color solution, but it's no secret that for any housewife the appearance of the apron, emphasizing its original taste, is of great importance.
How to sew an apron for the kitchen with your own hands?
The first thing you need to do is determine which fabric to sew an apron from. It is desirable that the fabric was natural, they are more wear-resistant and better tolerate washing, and to erase the apron, of course, will often have to. Also, the fabric should be sufficiently dense to allow the apron to last longer, preserving its beautiful appearance. It is better to choose a cloth of dark color or in motley multi-colored tones, the apron should not be branded, and stains that can not be washed should not be visible.
In order to sew an apron for the kitchen, we will need the following materials:
- the main fabric, it will need 1,25-1,5 meters in length;
- a fabric of other color for pockets, of course, it should be beautifully combined with the basic color of the apron, a cut of 50x50 centimeters is necessary;
- a dense ribbon 3 meters in length;
- a ruler for a pattern, it is possible to manage with a usual ruler or a tape measure, but it considerably will complicate work;
- scissors;
- thread;
- chalk.
Having prepared all that is necessary, we will deal with the manufacture of an apron.
How to sew an apron: a master class
In the above-mentioned master class, we will not need a separate apron for the kitchen on paper, we will start working directly with the cloth:
1. We fold the main fabric for sewing an apron strictly in half, the edge to the edge. Using a color crayon, draw a vertical line-mark of 2.5 centimeters in the upper part of the workpiece, having measured and retracted 17 centimeters from the bend line. Note the line with the letter "A" in the picture.
2. At the upper point of the bend measure 43 centimeters down, note the resulting point with the letter "B".
3. Now measure 33 centimeters from point "B" perpendicular to the bend line. Mark the point with the letter "C".
4. Next, make a mark of 50 centimeters below the point "B" along the bend line. Mark the point with the letter "D". Similarly, make a mark below the point "C", put the letter "E". Now combine the shallow all marked points and get a ready-made pattern of the apron.
5. Now cut out the folded apron along the planned lines.
6. We will measure on a fabric for a pocket a rectangle in the sizes 40х25 centimeters and we will cut out it.
7. We have received all the necessary work for the work, we can start sewing. Of course, it will be faster and more accurate if you use a sewing machine, but if this is not possible, you can sew by hand, however, this will require much more time and effort. To begin with, using an iron, note and smooth the allowances for seams of 1.5-2 centimeters on each side.
8. We spend the upper part, the side seams and the bottom of the apron. Angles make an overlap.
9. We will engage armholes with arms.
10. First, we will straighten, smooth and straighten the allowance about a centimeter wide.
11. Now from the resulting sides we need to form channels of slightly wider width than the ribbon we have chosen. We measure and spend.
12. Now let's take care of your pocket. We measure and trim along the perimeter of the cut off the allowances of a width of 1.5-2 centimeters.
13. We will execute a line on allowances of a pocket.
14. Strictly symmetrically have a pocket on the apron, it is better to use a ruler for cutting.
15. After making sure that the pocket is located exactly in the middle of the apron, sew it around the perimeter except for the upper line.
16. From the resulting one large pocket, we make three small ones. Note their width with a ruler.
17. After completing two lines, we get three pockets.
18. The apron is ready, the only thing left to add is the tie. We cut the ribbon in half, bend the ends and let's sew.
19. Using a pin or a knitting needle, thread the ribbon into the sewn channels.
