Master class on Kanzash: making poppies from satin ribbons

Flowers in Kansas technique can be made both from tapes and from fabric. In order to make one poppy, we need such materials and tools:

  1. Make of a cardboard some patterns of petals of various size and circle them on a red fabric.
  2. Cut out the desired number of petals; for one flower you need 18 pieces (6 large, medium and small).
  3. Carefully scorch the edges of the petals with a lighter.
  4. Now let's deal with the design of the middle of the poppy. For this purpose, a ribbon of satin or organza is black. Cut it into squares and fan the tips.
  5. In order to make a poppy box, wrap a small piece of cotton wool around the flexible wire.
  6. From two squares of a black tape sew a pocket.
  7. Place the cotton wool there so that the wire comes out, and pull the pocket into the ball.
  8. The resulting poppy box is wrapped in threads as follows.
  9. We begin to make fringe. We wind on the hand a black thread.
  10. Then remove the hank from the hand and pull it in the middle with a thread, wrapping it several times.
  11. To the poppy box, attach the resulting fringe with wire.
  12. Fluff it so that the threads stick out from all sides.
  13. Dip the edges of the fringe into the glue of the pva.
  14. Then dab the glued areas with semolina.
  15. Handle all the edges of the fringe in this way and hang the poppy head to dry.
  16. We begin to glue the center with petals. The first layer is 6 small petals.
  17. Bottom paste half of the harvested bits of fringe.
  18. We glue the second layer of petals, this time medium.
  19. And another layer of fringe and large petals.
  20. This is how the underside of the product looks.

A ready flower can be used as a hair clip or brooch. And in Kansas technique you can make other flowers: roses , chrysanthemums or lilies .
