Kanzashi lily - master class

Lilies from satin ribbons invariably attract the attention of needlewomen with their beauty, and the simplicity of manufacturing makes them extra popular.

In this article, we will tell you how to make a lily from a tape with your own hands.

What is Kanzashi?

Kanzashi (kanzasi) - Japanese jewelry for the hair, which is worn as a constituent element of the traditional female costume. Initially, they looked like ordinary hairpins or combs, later they were adorned with artificial or seasonal flowers, pendants, inserts of valuable materials. Over time, decorated with silk flowers hairpins gave a name to the whole direction of applied art. It is based on typical receptions of origami, but the material for folding is not paper, but pieces of silk (satin).

How to make a lily (kanzachi)?

Before starting work prepare all the necessary materials, choose a comfortable place and time. You should not hurry or be nervous, because despite the simplicity of the performance, working with the cloth requires patience, good mood and attentiveness. Necessary materials:

Consider step-by-step execution of Kanzash lilies in our Mk.

  1. First of all, we will make a pattern for making petals. The easiest way is to make it out of cardboard, but if you have the opportunity to use thin plastic for this purpose - it will be much better. In addition, the plastic pattern will last you much longer. The length of the pattern is 7cm, width is 5cm. For one lily, we need 17 petals. In this case, in five of them one tip should be cut deeper than that of the usual ones.
  2. Alternately we sing out the edges of the petals over the candle flame. We firing and immediately, while hot, we stretch the edges in different directions, giving them a "waviness".
  3. We give the petals texture. To do this, spread the petals on a towel folded in several layers. We heat the knife and draw it back (not sharp) along the petals, pressing it slightly, so that the longitudinal streaks remain. Petals with cut ends (5pcs) are additionally toned in green. To do this, it is better to use several grains of food coloring. Simply carefully rub the toner into the fabric (use a cotton ball or ball so as not to stain your hands and apply a dye evenly). If the dye does not, crush the green pencil lead and rub in the satin.
  4. We cook stamens. Cut the line into pieces 5 cm long and dipped the edge of each in the glue, and then in a dry manga. If you stick a little mango, dry the "stamen" and repeat the procedure several times. In the end, dip a dried stamen with a manga in glue and golden glitter. Allow the stamens to dry completely, after which some of them trimmed shorter.
  5. We glue the first row (6 pieces) of petals to a circle of felt. We give a little dry and glue the second row (6 more).
  6. Tinted petals before gluing we add in the center (along the longitudinal axis). We make from them the third (3pc) and the fourth (2pc) tier of petals. When the design is a little dry, drip a bit of hot glue into the center and insert stamens. Do not release them too early, support until the glue is slightly clamped.
  7. If desired, the lily can be fastened to the chosen base - a hair clip, a bezel or an elastic band. And you can not fasten anywhere, leave it as it is. As a result, we have such a beautiful flower.
