How to sew a corset yourself?

The corset is a unique piece of the wardrobe that can emphasize your figure, visually reducing the waist and expressing the breast, and at the same time it refers to the evening and festive outfits often as part of the dress. However, their choice on the shelves of the store is not pleasing - it is very difficult to find the right color and style, because one of the best options in this situation is to sew the corset yourself.

We sew the corset with our own hands

So, having decided to sew the corset with our own hands, we will prepare the materials:

Now we will prepare the tools for work:

Now you can start work.

Corset sewing by own hands

  1. First of all, we are determined with the type of corset and its shape - whether it is a pulling corset on the chest or corset-belt, how much it should pull, what should be the shape of the cutout. We stopped at the usual corset and chest with the top in the form of a bodice. Cut out the paper templates.
  2. Now let's deal with bones. As you know, they also come in several types: spiral and steel, for our corset both are suitable, this is a matter of taste. The length we take is 2 cm shorter than the seams of the corset, otherwise it can tear very quickly.
  3. Let's get to work in the cloth. Cut out the fabric according to the patterns with the allowance of 1 cm on the seams.
  4. The last step is to cut out two patches of binding fabric for the back part under the lacing, then iron out all the elements.
  5. Now we sew the elements from the outer fabric.
  6. Then do the same with the elements from the lining material.
  7. Sewing all the elements, gently iron from the wrong side all the seams. On the bends under the chest with scissors, we perform light incisions.
  8. Next we connect the outer fabric with the lining. We lay the lining and facing fabric next to them so that they touch the right sides, and sew them along the back stock. We turn them over and iron them again.
  9. Now, finally, we will start sewing the tubules for the bones. We carefully prepare the sewing machine for work. To ensure that the corset holds the shape well, we will insert the bones on either side of each seam and one along the back on both sides. For each seam line, we implant the fabric by joining the seams of the outer and inner sides. Stitches are carried out extremely accurately, making sure that they are aligned as precisely as possible in relation to each other.
  10. Now we'll stitch the outer side of each tubule. The width of the tubule is 1 cm with a bone diameter of 0.5 cm.
  11. Gently trim the edges, threads, if necessary, correct the form, correct mistakes.
  12. Further, we define with the lining or edging of the product. We will give the corset a smooth, smooth shape.
  13. For the upper edging we put a part of the lining fabric on the table, straighten the corset as evenly as possible. Cut the fabric along the upper edge of the corset, then remove the corset and cut the strip about 4 cm wide.
  14. The same will be done for the lower edging.
  15. Now we sew the upper border bands from the front side.
  16. We put the rim on the wrong side and iron.
  17. Now between the two layers of the upper and lining fabric we insert bones.
  18. Then we will deal with the lower edging. We do it exactly the same as the upper, only nuance - we make sure that the bones are located above the seam, otherwise we will break the needle.
  19. Now with the seam of the seam from the underside we sew the upper and lower edging.
  20. Next, we will outline the places for inserting the eyelets. They should be located about 2 cm apart.
  21. Cut or punched holes.
  22. Now we insert the eyelets, making sure that they are fixed well enough.
At this stage, the corset is ready. That's what we got.
