Cervical canal expanded

Quite often after passing a gynecological examination, the pregnant woman hears from the doctor that the cervical canal is widened - this means the early onset of labor. Normally, this condition of the uterine neck is observed at the end of pregnancy - after 37-38 weeks. However, there are cases when the cervical canal expands and in the middle of pregnancy, in such cases they speak of the development of ischemic-cervical insufficiency, which consists in the fact that the cervix can not normally hold the fetal egg.

Because of what the cervical canal widens?

Most often, the dilatation of the cervical canal occurs at the 16-18 week of gestation. This is due to the fact that in this period there is a strong growth. However, in most cases, the reasons for the fact that the cervical canal is widened are:

• trauma of the cervical canal;
• anomaly of structure;
• increase in the concentration of male hormones;
• multiple pregnancy.

In those cases when the cervical canal is widened only by a slit, i. E. 1 finger does not pass through the cervix, no action is taken, watching the pregnant woman on. In those situations where the canal expands significantly, the woman is hospitalized.

How is treatment carried out?

In case if the cervical canal is significantly expanded during pregnancy, the woman is sent to a hospital. To prevent the development of spontaneous abortion , hormonal preparations are prescribed, which lead to a decrease in uterine musculature and a narrowing of the cervical canal.

Quite often, to treat the disease on the neck, put on, the so-called pessary (ring), which is removed only closer to the delivery - at 37 weeks. In some cases, the neck can be sewn. This kind of surgery is carried out exclusively in the hospital and in the presence of appropriate indications.
