Cerro Cora


The national reserve of Cerro Cora is well known far beyond Paraguay and is very popular with tourists around the world for the untouched beauty of nature and rich cultural and historical heritage.

Cerro Cora Park is located on the banks of the river Rio Aquibadan, in the eastern part of Paraguay, in the department of Amambay, near the border with Brazil. At 45 km from the reserve is the nearest town - Pedro Juan Caballero. The distance to the capital of the country - the city ​​of Asuncion - 454 km.

History of creation

The reserve was established by the decree of the Government of Paraguay in February 1976. The park gained fame due to the fact that it was in these parts in 1870 that the decisive battle of the Paraguayan War against the Triple Alliance took place, which included Argentina , Brazil and Uruguay . During the battle, the national hero of Paraguay, Marshal Francisco Solano Lopez, whose dying words "I died with my people" in the country knows everyone.

How to get there?

The National Reserve of Cerro-Cora belongs to the Grand Chaco (Plain of the Great Chaco), which is mostly poorly populated and is a steppe area. The only option for an independent trip to Cerro Cora Park is a trip along the Ruta Trans-Chaco highway towards the Lower Gran Chaco and the city of Philadelphia.
