The Presbytero Maestro cemetery appeared in Lima on May 31, 1808 and was named after the architect Matis Maestro. It became the first civilian cemetery in America and in those days caused a lot of controversy and conflicts. In the center of the cemetery in the 18th century was an octagonal chapel, which was decorated with beautiful frescoes and mosaics, but, unfortunately, now only floorboards remained from it.

The first burial in the cemetery occurred immediately during the opening, it was the funeral of the Spanish archbishop. Later, on the territory of the Presbytero Maestro, memorials appeared to the dead heroes in the Pacific War, the presidents of the republic, politicians, scientists, architects, writers, artists, etc.

The oldest preserved to this day gravestone belongs to the holy woman of Maria de la Cruz. Till now to its grave locals bring flowers and gifts, ask for help and good luck. At the same time, the tombstone attracts many shamans, magicians and psychics who perform rituals on it.
