Description and general information

Lake Yarinacocha is located just north-east of Pucallpa, in the Amazon basin. Very long ago it was connected with the river Ukuili, but because of special climatic conditions (arid climate) the ways of these reservoirs were dispersed. Lake Yarinokocha is just over 15 km in length, it is popular with lovers of fishing, and local neighborhoods are a favorite holiday destination not only among the indigenous people, but also among the guests of the country. What is remarkable about this lake? Jarinaco in Peru is an oasis of purity and silence near the noisy and gassed Pucallpa, which is the center of the woodworking regional industry.

What to see?

In the main harbor of the lake (the village of Puerto Callao) there are a lot of restaurants, bars and fairly budget Peruvian hotels , but if you come here to enjoy the silence, then we advise you not to stay at the harbor hotels, but directly at the lake where there are no noisy institutions and quantity tourists do not go overboard. In the village you can rent a boat to enjoy a leisurely boat trip or organize fishing, by the way, you can meet unique pink and gray freshwater dolphins in the lake, while on the shore you can admire the calm rhythm of amusing sloths or see a lot of amazing birds living in these latitudes.

Nearby attractions include the Chulyachaki Botanical Garden, it is only 9 km from Puerto Callao - by the way, excursions are very often organized there. For connoisseurs of history and culture, no doubt, it will be interesting to visit the villages of San Francisco and Santa Clara, where the tribe of Shipibo Indians live (by the way, the tribe is headed by women, since here is established matriarchy), famous for their musicality. Experienced guides will share with pleasure the facts from the life of the tribe, and those who wish can even stay overnight in one of the local huts.
