For the cultivation of bonsai with their own hands, most often use a variety of ficuses, in particular the ficus of Benjamin.

How to make a bonsai from a Benjamin ficus?

To begin with, let's define what includes the formation of the ficus for bonsai. The main task here is to create a full-fledged miniature copy of an adult tree, the hallmarks of which are a thick trunk and a lush crown with powerful branches. Therefore, the formation of a bonsai tree from a fig tree will be performed in several stages:

  1. Formation of the trunk. To obtain the characteristic thickening of the trunk for adult trees will help correct pruning of the roots. Regularly pruning the root system can achieve that the plant will increase not up, but in breadth. The main (core) root should be cut as short as possible in order to stimulate the growth and development of the lateral surface roots. For safety reasons, cut the slices immediately with charcoal or a weak solution of potassium permanganate.
  2. Crown formation. After the trunk of the ficus has acquired the desired thickness, they begin to form the crown. You can achieve the desired result by trimming and tying the branches. Depending on what form of bonsai you want to get, the pruning and shaping scheme will differ. So, the easiest way to form a bicompess of Benjamin bonsai Tokkan, which is characterized by a straight trunk with a branch free from branches. The desired direction of the branches is set by wire.
