To the edema, redness of the eyes, some are very serious, perceiving it as an ailment that will pass itself. In fact, these signs may indicate the onset of blepharitis - a disease of the eyelids.
The main sign of the development of blepharitis is edema, a change in the eyelid, however, depending on the type and stage of the disease, other characteristic symptoms are added.
Blepharitis - Causes and Symptoms
Blepharitis as an ophthalmic disorder is diagnosed quite often and at any age. In children, the main prerequisite for blepharitis is dirty hands, a violation of hygiene, when dirt and microbes get on the mucous eyes.
In adulthood, various circumstances can cause blepharitis, ranging from bacteria, fungi, ending with the effects of allergens and parasitic ticks. However, the main thing that we should not forget - the manifestation of blepharitis is possible only on "fertile soil," namely:
- general reduction of the body's defenses;
- hidden infections;
- recently cured / untreated infections;
- diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, diabetes, oncological abnormalities;
- the "dry eye" syndrome, when the mucosa is not adequately supplied with natural lubrication.
Acute blepharitis means the first occurrence of the disease against the background of the above circumstances. Chronic blepharitis is a repeated case, it occurs in almost everyone who has ever had an illness before. To prevent the development of blepharitis attacks will allow the stability of the entire immune system as a whole.
All manifestations of blepharitis have similar signs, which can be used to diagnose the onset of inflammation , namely:
- thickening and swelling of the eyelids;
- local formations on the eyelids;
- itching, burning, resists, eye discomfort.
Demodectic blepharitis
Demodectic blepharitis is caused and developed under the influence of the Demodex mite. It is believed that such ticks live on the skin of 80% of people, but in normal life they do not parasitize. However, as soon as the immunity decreases, the infection gets the foundation for development.
The main manifestations of demodectic blepharitis:
- unpleasant itching along the line of eyelash growth, century;
- discomfort in the eyes, the desire to wipe them, scratch, wash;
- thickening, redness, swelling of the eyelid;
- foreign debris discharge between the cilia.
Allergic blepharitis
Allergic blepharitis manifests itself along with the usual signs of allergy and is expressed:
- redness of the eyes;
- unbearable itching, burning;
- fear of light, rubbing in the eyes;
- increased tearing.
Allergic blepharitis is usually easily separated and does not wither between cilia, as in other forms of blepharitis.
Blepharitis scaly
Blepharitis scaly is diagnosed by ophthalmologists quite often. In addition to edema, possible itching, formations on the eyelid, it differs by drying "scales" along the line of eyelash growth. These scales form the epithelium of the sebaceous glands and epidermal cells. Scales are attached to the eyelid between the eyelashes and are poorly separated.
Meibomian blepharitis
Meibomian blepharitis is expressed in the form of inflammation of the meibomian glands, which leads to an increase in their secretion and the inability to withdraw this secret.
Characteristic signs of meibomite:
- on the edge of the eyelashes and the lower eyelid, transparent bubbles appear;
- bubbles that burst, leave a small pink scar;
- bubbles can dissolve without a trace.
Ulcerative blepharitis
The most complicated course is characterized by ulcerative blepharitis. This type of blepharitis begins with a staphylococcal infection, progressing in the hair follicles of the eyelashes.
Ulcerative blepharitis is diagnosed by the following symptoms:
- at the edge of the eyelid, ulcers are found;
- the edges of the eyelids stick together;
- the sores leave traces when healing;
- it is possible to lose part of the eyelashes.
