Diabetes mellitus is an endocrine disease that occurs due to insulin hormone deficiency and is characterized by a high level of sugar in the blood. Studies show that there are currently more than 200 million diabetic patients in the world. Unfortunately, modern medicine has not yet found ways to treat this disease. But there is an opportunity to control this disease by regularly introducing certain doses of insulin.
Calculation of the insulin dose for patients with different severity of the disease
The calculation is made according to the following scheme:
- disease newly diagnosed: 0.5 U / kg;
- Diabetes 1 degree with compensation from a year or more: 0.6 U / kg;
- grade 1 diabetes with unstable compensation: 0.7 U / kg;
- diabetes in decompensated conditions: 0.8 U / kg;
- diabetes complicated by ketoacidosis: 0.9 ED / kg;
- diabetes in pregnant women in the III trimester: 1.0 unit / kg.
The dose of one injectable should not be more than 40 units, and the daily dose should not exceed 70-80 units. And the ratio of daily and night doses will be 2: 1.
Rules and features of insulin administration
- The introduction of insulin preparations, both short (and / or) ultrashort action, and drugs of prolonged action, is always done 25-30 before meals.
- It is important to ensure the cleanliness of the hands and the injection site. To do this, it will be enough to wash your hands with soap and wipe with a clean cloth moistened with water, the place of injection.
- The spread of insulin from the injection site occurs at different rates. Recommended places for the introduction of short-acting insulin (NovoRapid, Actropid) into the abdomen, and prolonged (Protafan) - into the thighs or buttocks
- Do not make insulin injection in the same place. This threatens the formation of seals under the skin and, accordingly, improper absorption of the drug. It is better if you select any injection system, so that there is time to repair the tissues.
- Insulin long-term exposure before use requires a good mix. Short-acting insulin does not need mixing.
- The drug is administered subcutaneously and along the folds collected
thumb and forefinger. If the needle is inserted vertically, it is possible that insulin enters the muscle. Introduction is very slow, because this method simulates the normal delivery of the hormone into the blood and improves its absorption in the tissues. - The ambient temperature can also affect the absorption of the drug. So, for example, if you apply a heating pad or other heat, then insulin is twice as fast as it enters the blood, while cooling, on the contrary, will reduce the suction time by 50%. Therefore it is important, if you store the drug in the refrigerator, be sure to allow it to warm up to room temperature.
