Ectopia of the cervix - what is it?

Despite the high incidence of a disease such as cervical ectopia, many women have no idea what kind of disorder it is and how it manifests itself. This disease is characterized by a shift of the boundary of the transition of the cylindrical epithelium into a multilayered flat, towards the external throat of the uterus. It is found in about 30% of women, and in 11.3% of them this disorder is congenital. Most often occurs in women younger than 30 years, i.е. most ectopia of the cervix develops in nulliparous women. Cervical ectopia of the cervix itself does not turn into a malignant form, but it can contribute to its appearance.

How to recognize the ectopia by yourself?

In most cases, signs of ectopia of the cervix are hidden, because almost uncomplicated forms of the disease are almost never symptomatic. In such cases, the disease is diagnosed during the next preventive examination of a woman.

However, quite often, there is a complication of this disease, which manifests itself in the development of the inflammatory process (dysplasia, leukoplakia, cervical polyps, etc.). With these violations, a woman observes the appearance of characteristic vaginal discharge (whites, which are also accompanied by itching, bleeding, dyspravitation).

Primary manifestations of ectopia of the cylindrical epithelium of the cervix are characterized by a violation of the menstrual cycle. Long-term absence of therapy for this disease can lead to the development of female infertility, which is difficult to treat.

What are the features of cervical ectopy treatment?

In the case of an uncomplicated or congenital form of ectopy, the presence of which does not lead to the appearance of other disorders, treatment is not performed. In this case, doctors carry out a dynamic observation of the state of the woman's health.

Treatment of complicated forms of cervical ectopy is performed taking into account the existing changes. As a rule, a woman is prescribed antiviral and anti-inflammatory drugs. Special attention is paid to the correction of the hormonal background of the body.

After complete relief of the foci of the inflammatory process, they begin to destroy (eliminate) the foci of existing ectopia. At the same time, cryogenic exposure, methods of radiosurgery, laser coagulation are used . After carrying out such procedures, a clear boundary of the transition of the cylindrical epithelium to the flat one is formed, which is confirmed by the subsequent gynecological examination performed after the treatment.

Prevention - the basis for successful treatment of ectopy

In order to timely identify the presence of violations, a woman must be constantly undergoing preventive examinations. In addition, in the presence of problems with the hormonal background, which is not uncommon after childbirth, it is necessary to make appropriate correction with the use of hormonal drugs, the selection of which is carried out on an individual basis.

Separately it is necessary to say about the importance of timely treatment of sexual infections and the prevention of their occurrence. Love and loyalty to one's partner is the guarantee of the health of the reproductive system of a married couple.

In detecting a woman's presence, the so-called pseudo-erosion, which is often the basis for the development of ectopy, regular cytological control is prescribed with the taking of swabs for analysis.

Thus, such a violation as ectopia of the cervix is well amenable to correction. The main successful therapeutic process is early detection and timely treatment of the disease.
