Sled dogs - breeds

In the most impassable places on the planet, where even horses and mechanisms can not break through the plains covered with a huge thickness of snow, faithful domesticated animals come to the aid of people. Northern sled dogs are amazing creatures, these breeds have wild wolf instincts and at the same time they selflessly defend the masters, and when they need help in hunting the seal or dragging a heavy harness. We think that a brief introduction to some of them will slightly broaden the horizon and will be useful information for fans of wildlife.

Main breeds of dogs:

  1. The Chukchi Sledge breed.
  2. Peoples who inhabited the harsh Arctic expanses of the northeast of Asia, even after the appearance of cross-country vehicles, do not refuse the help of their wonderful shaggy assistants, who have phenomenal performance and excellent endurance. The standard of the Chukchi sledge was developed on the basis of the exterior of the Kamchatka sled dog, but it itself appeared as a result of the merger of several groups of driving aboriginal breeds - the Yenisey, Anadyr, Chukchi, Sakhalin and others.

  3. East Siberian husky.
  4. These handsome men are relatives of witches, who in the North have become experienced hunters, guard and sled animals. This breed is not excessively aggressive to man, but lightning-fast reaction, masculinity and considerable physical strength make it an excellent assistant in the campaign for sable, lynx or even bear.

  5. Driving dogs of breed malamute.
  6. A distinctive feature of malamutes is intelligence, kindness and ability to get along with people perfectly. In addition, these dogs will not bother you with annoying barking, having much in common with wolves, they make more sounds like grumbling or growling.

  7. Husky.
  8. Although the sled breeds all behave well in the harness, it is for the Husky that this is a favorite activity, where they show their diligence and endurance in full force. Loneliness and the lack of walks of a dog of this northern breed are badly tolerated, so they often howl with boredom.

  9. Wolfgang.
  10. The following dogs in the list are a hybrid of German shepherds and wild wolves. The result of crossing was excellent. Volkosoby by nature took more from clever and friendly sheepdogs, but with a sense of endurance and in no way inferior to wolves. For border guards of the Far East and hunters, they were an excellent find.

  11. Samoyed.
  12. By their appearance, Samoyed Laika are real cubs. But these lovely handsome men can surprise even the experienced conquerors of the North, being able to transport loads of enormous weight, which is more than one and a half times the weight of the dog itself. The age of this breed is very ancient, it is believed that the northern tribes tamed their pets over three thousand years ago.
