For planting shrubs choose the site is sunny and open. It is important that the earth is loose, without stagnation of water due to the close location of groundwater. Soils with a normal and slightly acid reaction are suitable.

It is best to plant a young plant earlier in the spring, when the kidneys have not yet blossomed. It is recommended to dig up the planting pit a few weeks before planting. For adult barberry bushes, it is deepened to 40 cm with a diameter of up to 50 cm. For young seedlings, there is enough depth and a pit diameter of 30 cm. If the soil is not suitable in your garden, fill the planting pit with a mixture of garden soil, humus and sand in equal proportions. In the event that the soil is quite acidic, about two hundred grams of lime can be added to the planting pit. Before landing in the pit, pour a bucket of water, then place a seedling, straighten its roots and gently fall asleep with earth, trampling it.

Care for barberry ordinary in the garden

Caring for the bush is not particularly heavy, because barberry common is quite unpretentious. However, like any other garden "resident", it requires a little attention and care.

An important aspect of caring for barberry is timely watering. Of course, the bush can not be called demanding for moisture, but for normal growth, water is needed. After planting, the plant is watered once a week for the first three to four weeks, until the barberry is taken to a new place. A few days after watering, the soil around the bush should be loosened to improve the aeration.

In the care of a barberry bush it is impossible forget and about feeding. True, they are introduced the next year after planting. In spring, barberry is fed with nitrogen fertilizers (urea, humus). In autumn, under the bush, you need to pour 10 g of potassium fertilizer and 10-15 g of superphosphate .

In the care of barberry, one should not forget about the pruning done in the early spring. The pruner removes dry, weak or frost-damaged shoots. Healthy branches are shortened by 2/3 of the length.

In regions with severe winter barberry bushes are covered by what was found on the farm - dry foliage, thick paper or burlap.
