Aevit in the planning of pregnancy

When planning a pregnancy, many women start taking vitamins. Of course, a doctor should prescribe any medications, but when it comes to vitamin complexes for pregnant women and not only, we often rely only on ourselves. What such self-confidence can lead to, we try not to think. Meanwhile, the uncontrolled use of large doses of certain vitamins can be dangerous. This applies to the drug Aevit, which is often taken in the planning of pregnancy.

Aevita contains fat-soluble vitamins A (retinol) and E (tocopherol). Of course, these substances are necessary for our body. Retinol, for example, improves metabolism, helps slow the aging of cells, supports vision, participates in the formation of bone tissue, and increases immunity. It is necessary for normal growth and development of the embryo . Tocopherol strengthens the walls of blood vessels, prevents the formation of blood clots, improves skin condition and increases fertility (ability to procreate).

Knowing the beneficial effects of these vitamins on the body of a future mother, women often start taking Aevit before pregnancy. This can be dangerous, because Aevit is not a prophylactic, but curative drug, and the doses of active substances in it far exceed the required amount of vitamins A and E: 1 capsule contains 100,000 IU of retinol and 0.1 g of tocopherol. The daily requirement for these vitamins is 3000 IU and 10 mg, respectively.

In addition, vitamins A and E can accumulate in the body and, in large quantities, have a teratogenic effect on the embryo. Therefore, doctors recommend that women who take Aevit for conception should wait 3-6 months after the drug is canceled.
