Caring for tulips in the open ground is quite simple and even a beginner florist will master all the works. Although we must admit that by gaining experience and knowing the artful tricks of agrotechnics, every year flowering will please more and more.

It is very important, before you start growing tulips in the open ground, to choose the right place for them. There should not be too windy, and also very wet, since in the spring there is a risk of losing plants due to soaking.

When to plant tulips in the open ground?

Everyone knows that inadequate work can completely destroy plants, and therefore planting tulips in the open ground and care for them should begin in a strictly prescribed time.

Depending on the region, the time for the landing of tulips in the open ground is slightly different, but if a person knows when the frost will begin, it should be a month before the tubers are planted. That is, approximately in September-October these works are being conducted.

How to plant bulbs?

Planting material must be of superior quality and not have the slightest signs of rot. After all, the final result depends on this. The place for planting should be thoroughly digged and loosened, and for bulbs, dig a trench depth of at least 10 centimeters. Many gardeners before planting soak for a while planting material in a solution of manganese, although this is not necessary.

Usually large bulbs are laid out center-wise downwards, and small ones are located at the edges. After this, the trench is filled with loose earth and watered from the watering can.

In order not to lose valuable varieties or their babies, it is possible to plant bulbs in special containers made of mesh or plastic with the available holes, and already bury the pots in the ground. After all, during strong downpours, plants can go deep into the ground or in winter they can be chewed by mouse-voles.

Plants with tulips can have a variety of forms. Beautifully looked plants planted in varieties. Low-grown tulips can be decorated with curbs and garden paths .

Winter care

In the cold season, if the tulips were planted on time and had time to build up the root system, the plants are exposed to the necessary for full flowering stratification. That is, a cold winter is not an obstacle for them.

But if tulips are grown in regions where winter frosts are up to -30 ° C or lower, it makes sense to cover the place of planting with lapnik or other covering material. But then with the first spring sun should not forget to remove the shelter, so that the tubers do not get out.

In spring, around March, before the snow begins to melt, it is necessary to disperse ammonium nitrate about 30 grams per cubic meter.

Summer work

In the warm season, care for plants is a regular watering and fertilizing complex fertilizers. Closer to the end of flowering, watering should be stopped so that the tubers can gain strength.

When the flower is opal, it is necessary to remove the flower stem with the testis, so that all the forces of the plant go to build up the tuber. After a month and a half, the tops should be removed. Experienced gardeners are advised to change the place of planting tulips a year later so that they do not go deep into the ground. To do this, in August, the tubers are dug and laid to dry before October, after which they are planted in a new fertile place.
