Tortuguero

The Tortuguero National Park is a chain of volcanic islands in the Caribbean Sea. He got his name from the river with the same name, which in turn was named because of turtles, which inhabited the river in large numbers.

Flora and Fauna of Tortuguero

The Tortuguero National Park is a real paradise for wildlife lovers: due to frequent rains, a unique biosystem (marshy selva) has been formed over the years, which is complemented by a feature such as the fusion of salt water of the sea and fresh waters of rivers. A huge number of rivers, connected by narrow channels, formed here the so-called waterway - a 200-kilometer-long path, passing between the palm trees and tropical flowers, which makes it possible to swim to Nicaragua without leaving the sea.

On the vast territory of one of the main national parks of Costa Rica in the jungles and rivers you can meet amazing and rare animals and birds, about the existence of which many even did not know: snake, tiger drink and trogon, American manatee, as well as colorful herons, cormorants , crocodiles, jaguars, monkeys, turtles, etc.

Recreation and excursions

The Tortuguero National Park in Costa Rica offers its visitors various types of outdoor activities, but perhaps the most popular tour is the night observation of sea turtles. Experienced guides will tell you the rules of behavior (silence, special light, do not touch anything, etc.), observing which you will not scare away the turtles from the main occupation.

Popular with tourists and horseback riding in the reserve, as well as fishing and surfing . No less interesting excursion is considered a visit to the banana plantation "Chicita". In souvenir shops pay attention to the work of wood and ceramics of local craftsmen. Great popularity is enjoyed by stamps, where flowers, butterflies, birds or memorial places of Costa Rica are depicted.
