The Viñacura Tower

Every nation always seeks to protect its territory. For this purpose, specific buildings are built, designed to help see the enemy and defend against him. Just about this building, the Viñakura Tower in Malta , we will tell this time. It is part of the whole complex of the same name complex (Wignacourt Towers). In total, there were six such buildings, only four have survived to this day, and the Viñakura Tower is one of them.

History

The idea of building towers first appeared in the 15th century. However, it was only a century later that they could get down to business. And the reason for this was the Ottoman ships seen near Sicily. Martin Garzes, being a military engineer, suggested building towers. Unfortunately, he failed to translate his ideas into reality. He died, but left an amount of 12 thousand crowns for the construction of these towers.

The first tower got its name in honor of the successor of Martin Garzes. Its first stone was laid in February 1610.
