The Riga Parliament


The Riga Parliament (or the Sejm) is the main political building in Latvia , which can surprise with a unique style of construction and an interesting history. At the moment, 100 deputies are in the building. Elections are held once in 4 years.

A bit of history

The Riga Parliament was built in 1867 on the basis of the architecture of the Florentine Renaissance palaces. Initially it was Vidzeme Knights' House. Throughout history, the building was rebuilt. So, in the years 1900-1903. a new wing was added and the courtyard was built up. The following changes took place in 1923, after which the first parliament of the republic, the Saeima, began its work in the building.

Night of museums

May 18 - International Museum Day. In connection with this, the "Night of Museums" action is held annually in May, thanks to which the capital's museums and museums of all regions of Latvia open their doors to anyone who wishes. The Riga Parliament is no exception. Visitors can see the premises of the building with their own eyes: Meeting room, library, as well as many decorative details, beautiful chandeliers, staircases, corridors, as well as sculptures on the building itself.

Attention! Do not forget the document proving your identity, otherwise the security will not miss you! And also do not take anything unnecessary - at the entrance you are waiting for a metal detector frame.
