Museum of Foreign Art (Riga)


The Museum of Foreign Art is located in the historic center of Riga in the building of the Riga Stock Exchange. Local residents call it the Art Museum "Riga Stock Exchange". It opened in 2011. Here you can appreciate the culture of East and West, classics and contemporary art.

Stock Exchange Building

The museum is located in the building of the stock exchange, which is an architectural monument, it was built in 1855, imitating the Venetian palazzo of the Renaissance. Now, after the successful completion of the recovery process on six floors, modernly equipped exhibition halls and various expositions are located. The Museum of Foreign Art holds seminars, conferences, there is a gift shop and art catalogs, as well as a cafe.

Expositions of the museum

The rooms are designed to convey the atmosphere of the XIX century. On the 4th floor there is an art gallery of Western classical European painting. The luxurious interior presents paintings of Dutch, Flemish, German, French and Italian masters. The pride of the collection is the Northern School of Painting of the 17th century.

The western gallery is devoted to the magnificent West European art of the XVIII - XX centuries. Here is a collection of porcelain and the history of Riga collectors is presented. Porcelain is on display in the Silver Cabinet.

On the third floor is the Eastern Gallery, which houses the collections of Oriental art. The Museum of Foreign Art boasts the largest collection of Oriental art in the Baltics. There are many masterpieces of traditional oriental culture. The exhibition reflects various religions and aspects of everyday life. Japanese, Chinese, Indian and Indonesian traditional art are widely exhibited.

Nearby is a very popular Egyptian exhibition visitors with a single Egyptian mummy in a wooden sarcophagus.

On the ground floor, various modern art exhibitions are organized in modernly equipped exhibition halls.

The museum offers visitors audio guide services, providing an opportunity to hear stories about the most interesting 37 museum exhibits. Professional guide services are also provided. Excursions are conducted in Latvian, English, Spanish, Russian and for different age groups.

Where is?

The museum is located next to Dome Square . In this part of the city there is almost no public transport. Therefore, you should get to the Latvian National Theater by tram number 5, 6, 7 or 9, after which you will go down three blocks towards Dome Square and to the right of you will be the Riga Stock Exchange.
