Temples of Saratov

Before the arrival of Soviet power in the city of Saratov, there were more than fifty different churches and temples. Perhaps, therefore, he was also elected as an indicative site for the God-struggling campaign of the 1920s-1930s. It was during this period that many of Saratov's temples were simply wiped off the face of the earth. Restoration of temple structures began in Saratov only towards the end of the 20th century, actively continuing to this day.

Church of Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Cyril and Methodius, Saratov

The history of the church of Cyril and Methodius in Saratov began more than 100 years ago when it was decided at the local university to organize the chair of Orthodox theology. At the same time the house church church was laid. During the Soviet era, it was closed and revived only in 2004.

Temple of Seraphim of Sarov, Saratov

The church in honor of St. Seraphim of Sarov was laid in Saratov in 1901 on the donations of local residents. During the Soviet era, the building was transferred to an institutional dormitory and has survived only 10% to this day. Restoration work in the temple began in 2001 and is ongoing to the present.

The Church of the Protection of the Holy Virgin in Saratov

Pokrovsky temple in Saratov was built in the very end of the 19th century, and stayed active for very little. Already in the late 20s of the 20th century it became the responsibility of the Economic Institute, and its kindergarten was located in its belltower. In 1931, an attempt was made to completely destroy the temple by blowing it up. Until 1992, the building of the temple was in a dilapidated state and only by the beginning of the 21st century it was brought to the proper view.

Church of the Nativity of Christ, Saratov

The Church of the Nativity of Christ appeared in Saratov on the initiative of local residents, who collected funds for its construction in 1909. In 1935 the church was closed, and church property was plundered. Only at the very end of the 20th century, after much wrangling, the building of the church was returned to the Orthodox Church and to this day it is being restored.

The Church of All Saints in Saratov

The Church of All Saints was built in Saratov just recently - in 2001. The initiator of the construction was the General Director of the Saratov Bearing Plant A.M. Chistyakov. The main shrine of the temple is the ark with the relics of the Reverend Optina elders.
