Syphilis in the mouth

Syphilis is a common sexually transmitted disease. Its causative agent are bacteria - pale treponema. It affects the skin, mucous membranes, bones, internal organs and the nervous system. We consider with you, what is syphilis in the mouth and how it manifests itself.

The causes of the appearance of syphilis in the oral cavity

Syphilis in the mouth is often the result of oral sex or kissing with already infected, as well as infection, infested with medical instruments. An indispensable condition for infection is a violation of the integrity of the mucous membrane of the mouth: cracks and abrasions.

Symptoms of syphilis in the mouth

What does syphilis look like in the mouth? As a result of infection with the infection, after about 3-4 weeks on the mucous membrane of the mouth and tongue appears a small, completely painless sore with a dense base called chancre. Most often it is formed on the lips, mucous tongue and palatine tonsils, and less often - on the gums, inside the cheeks and in the sky. Its diameter is on the average 5-10 millimeters, and the shape and depth of the lesion depend on its localization. Approximately in a couple of weeks, the submaxillary lymph nodes begin to increase in a person, and then the ulcer disappears on its own and disappears without a trace.

After this, several months after infection, the pathogens of infection are localized in the blood, which leads to rashes on the mucous membranes - syphilis, violations of the general condition of the body - malaise, weakness, fever and headaches. This is secondary syphilis, which first passes completely without a trace, and then recurs for several years.

4-6 years after the onset of the disease, the last stage begins - tertiary syphilis, with not only the mucous membranes, but also many internal organs, as well as the nervous system. On the mucous membrane of the mouth, gummies and various tuberous rashes are formed.

The healing takes about 12-15 weeks and ends with the appearance of a clear stellate retracted scar. Syphilis of the mouth can sometimes be quite difficult to distinguish from pharyngitis, sore throat or stomatitis, so it's better to contact the venereologist immediately, so as not to miss the disease.
