Sugar Island

As soon as the Dutch colonies appeared in Mauritius, the sugar cane became the main agricultural crop, and the production of sugar was the basis of the state's economy. A powerful impetus to the development of this particular industry was the appearance on the island of slaves and the use of their labor. When, in Mauritius, the British ruled, sugar was actively exported to England.

Features of the museum

Actually, the L'Aventure du Sucre, which the old sugar factory in Mauritius turned into, will tell you about all this and much more. It will be a mistake to say that it is exclusively devoted to sugar. Rather, the museum tells the story of the island.

It is impossible to get lost here. All exhibition halls are located in such a way that the visitor can understand where to go next. You will learn what stages of sugar production exist, get acquainted with the intricacies of world trade in this product, and just have a pleasant time.

On the first floor of the plant there are paintings, household utensils and other items that tell about the life of slaves and their work. There you can see a film about the island, which shows how it developed from the moment of its appearance. Other halls are devoted directly to the production of sugar and the equipment with which it is carried out.

Information in the museum is presented in different ways: tablets, video and photo materials, interactive sections, so beloved by children. In other words, everyone will find here something interesting for themselves. For children in the museum special assistants are provided - Floris and Raj, they will tell the children all the most interesting about sugar.
