Strontyloidosis is a disease caused by nematodes - round worms, the size of which varies from 0.7 to 2.2 mm in length and 0.03-0.06 mm in width. Once in the body, helminths can live for years without showing themselves. But sometimes the disease can be acute and even lead to death.
Symptoms of strongyloidiasis
Symptoms of the disease depend on the stage of development of helminthiosis and on its form. At an early stage, you can observe such signs of the presence of helminths:
- Rash in the form of pinkish blisters in places where the parasite is in contact with the skin.
- The site of the rash grows very quickly.
- There is weakness, joint pain, dizziness, changes in the lymph nodes and internal organs.
- Approximately on the 4th-5th day after infection, a damp cough appears, breathing becomes difficult, when hearing in the lungs rales are audible.
The second, late, stage of the disease comes about a month after the "settlement" of parasites in the body. At this stage such forms of an illness appear:
- intestinal;
- duodeno-gall-bladder;
- pulmonary;
- allergotics;
- mixed.
Symptoms of the late stage depend on the form of the disease. The signs of the first two forms of strongyloidiasis are as follows:
- Disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, watery stool up to 20 times a day, sometimes in the stool there is an admixture of blood and mucus. Diarrhea practically does not stop with the help of medicines.
- The liver is enlarged, the patient feels pain in the region of the right hypochondrium.
- Lack of appetite, poor health, nausea, vomiting.
Strongyloidosis analysis
When the fecal analysis is first performed on strongyloidiasis, a positive result is not always observed. Therefore, the examination should be done several times during the week.
Treatment of strongyloidiasis
For the treatment of strongyloidiasis, drugs are prescribed:
- Vermox ;
- Decaris;
- Mintesol;
- Medamin.
To get rid of parasites, one or two courses of treatment must be completed. Within half a year it is necessary to be inspected monthly.
