Shower switch for mixer

All bath and shower faucets are equipped with water switches that guide it into the spout or into the shower head. There are several types of shower switches for the mixer. Let's consider, in what their features and differences, and also we will touch on a theme of repair of the failed switch.

Types of switches in the mixer from the tap to the shower

The types of shower switches available today are:

  1. Zolotnikovy - was common in the USSR, although today some manufacturers continue to produce mixers with such a switch. A characteristic feature of it is that a plastic or metal handle is placed between the valves.
  2. Cork - for today this type is obsolete and is rarely produced. The shift handle in this case is located in the middle, it is longer. And the main part is a cork with a cut-out, with the rotation of which the water flow is redirected.
  3. The cartridge switch on the mixer from the bath to the shower is often found on domestic mixers. In the event of a breakdown, it is rather difficult to fix such a switch due to the lack of spare parts for sale. Because it's easier to buy a new mixer.
  4. Pushbutton (exhaust) - is designed not only for switching water, but also mixing it from cold and hot taps. There are several varieties of such switches: automatic and simple.

Probable malfunction of faucets with bath-shower switch

If you observe how water flows from the tap and shower simultaneously, the reason is the wear of the spool seals. To eliminate breakage, you need to replace them. To do this, first turn off the water supply, disconnect the hose and disconnect the spout, unscrew the adapter, remove the valve handle, remove the spool and remove the old gaskets from it. Before installing new gaskets, moisten them with water. Now re-assemble the mixer.

When using the push-button switch, leakage water is also often associated with the wear of gaskets. Since the device of the push-button switch of the shower in the mixer is somewhat different, it is necessary to do the following: close the water, remove the spout, detach the adapter with a hexagonal wrench, remove the cap, remove the screw and remove the button. Then remove the valve and remove old rubber rings from it. After installing new gaskets, assemble the switch back.

It also happens that the spring of the pushbutton is out of order. In this case, you similarly need to disassemble it, pull out the stem with a spring, replace the broken spring and assemble the switch.
