Secrets of the human body: 8 organ-riddles, the purpose of which is still being considered by scientists

The human body is a complex mechanism in which each element fulfills its important task. At the same time, some of the components in this "machine" are still mysterious, and precisely their destination is not defined.

Despite the development of medicine, the human body is still considered not fully explored. As an example, we can cite some bodies whose functions can not be understood by the great minds of our time. Let's look at these "secret agents".

1. The appendix

For a long time this organ was considered reduced, that is simplified in structure due to lost functions. Earlier in America, there was even a fashion for the removal of appendicitis in newborns, but as a result, studies have shown that such babies subsequently begin to often get sick, and they also lag behind in mental and physical development. In addition, there are many useful bacteria in the appendix, so after removal of the organ, poisoning by people is much more difficult, and immunity is reduced.

2. Tonsils

In the nasopharynx of the person are tonsils, which are accumulations of lymphoid tissue. Glands are a kind of barrier that prevents viruses and bacteria from entering the respiratory system. At the same time, when there is a long-term exposure to viruses, the amygdala itself becomes the source of infection. As a result, a decision is made to remove the organ.

3. Thymus

This body is considered the most mysterious person. T-lymphocytes, which fight against viruses, are produced in the thymus gland - thymus. An interesting fact is that its function is not constant and fades with age. Because of this, the thymus is considered a "gland of youth".

4. Epiphysis

To many, this organ is known as the "third eye", which is supposedly used by clairvoyant people. It is believed that its main purpose is the production of melatonin, which takes part in adjusting the circadian rhythm. Interestingly, in some reptiles and fish in place of the epiphysis, there is actually a parietal eye that reacts to the intensity of light.

5. Spleen

Scientists have been conducting various studies for many years, but they still could not determine what functions this body performs. The only thing that is known: the spleen is involved in the production of lymphocytes and antibodies, which destroy the old red blood cells. Here, too, is the blood that is released during physical exertion.

6. The vomeronasal organ

There is a person and the makings of organs that have not received their development. For example, cats have a vomeronasal organ in the sky, and use it to trap pheromones, so animals often open their mouths. In humans, the vomeronasal organ is not developed.

7. Intestinal sinuses of the nose

There is no exact and unified opinion on the purpose of this organ, but at the same time scientists suggest that the sinuses work as a resonator that influences the formation of our voice. In addition, they are a kind of anti-impact buffer in case of injury.

8. The tailbone

For a long time, doctors were sure that this organ is unnecessary and rudimentary, that is, it lost its basic meaning in the process of human evolution. In fact, scientists believe that there used to be a tail here, and now many muscles and ligaments that are necessary for the proper functioning of the genitourinary system are attached to the coccyx.
