Every lover of outdoor activities or just a supporter of picnics is sure to have a favorite camping knife. And everyone, probably, is familiar with wrapping it in paper, a newspaper, a towel and the like, from which he will certainly jump out on the way to ruin your favorite bag.

Well, if you have a special branded knife, the sheath always comes with it, even if it's got to you without a cover, you can pick it up in the shops for the expedition. And what if you have the most common simple, but favorite knife? The output in this situation will be the manufacture of the sheath for the knife with your own hands.

How to sew the sheath for your knife yourself?

Before we begin to make a knife for a knife, let's pay attention to one thing - the handle of the knife must certainly be impregnated with water-repellent substances.

So, in order to make the sheath with our own hands, here's what we need:

• cotton cloth impregnated with resin;
• a piece of solid, dense, high-quality skin;
• nylon thread with a strong needle;
• clerical clamps;
• awl and pliers, if possible drill with a thin drill;
• calipers;
• sharp working knife;
• sharp cutters;
• strong wire;
• A quality shoe polish cream for sheathing.

Now we can start work.

Leather self-made sheath with their own hands:

1. The first thing we'll do is make a hard liner out of cotton fabric. We form it on the blade of the knife itself, after covering it with paraffin.
2. Next, we cut out a suitable piece of skin, moisten it well, then put the liner on the knife and place it on the center of the cut.
3. Then wrap the knife with a piece of leather and fix it with clips on the contour of the future seam, leave the product to dry completely.
4. Returning to work, we remove our clamps.
5. Now we begin to sew homemade scabbard. Using an awl, make a couple of holes at the beginning of the fold line. We trace the thread from both sides and get the first stitch.
6. In the opposite direction through the same holes make the second stitch.
7. We make with the help of an awl markup for the following holes, strictly following the uniformity of their location.
8. Next, take a drill with a thin drill and fill holes.
9. And we continue to sew the sheath into two needles, removing the needles with the help of pliers.
10. So we sew to the end of the line. Now firmly tighten the nylon thread in this way, as shown in the figures.
11. Next, we cut off the ends of the threads and we melt them over a candle or a match. The hardest part of the manufacture is sheath for the knife with your own hands behind.
12. Now take a sharp knife and cut off excess skin, leaving a small margin.
13. Then, with the help of an abrasive skin, we process the cut.
14. Now consider how to make a suspension for the scabbard with your own hands. From the skin flap we cut out the U-shaped workpiece, cut with a knife small holes at the top.
15. We pass the "tails" through the upper holes.
16. For further work, the knife from the scabbard should be removed and a wooden stick of the appropriate size inserted. We will outline the holes for fixing the suspension.
17. With the help of torches we make holes along the outlined contours.
18. And, finally, we will conduct the ready-made suspension in the holes made, focusing on the images.
19. Now our leather sheath is ready with our own hands. In conclusion, we will make a couple more strokes.
20. Next we had to adjust the sheath to the exact size of the scabbard. So, we'll insert the knife into the sheath, after moistening them properly, and tighten the wire firmly.
21. We are waiting for complete drying of the skin and remove the wire.
22. In the end, we will process our homemade scabbard shoe cream, so that they will become softer and more transformed. In this case, the knife is inserted into the sheath, wrapped in polyethylene.
