Red Throat in a Child: Causes

The red throat in a child can be due to many factors, but if to speak about the main reason, then most often it blushes with ARI (acute respiratory diseases). Regardless of which virus attacked your baby, its manifestation will primarily be a red throat. Due to the fact that the external signs of diseases are similar, it is difficult to make an accurate diagnosis. Most often, children become infected with adenoviruses, influenza virus enterovirus and herpes. But still there are distinctive features of each disease, and we will tell you about them below.

In adenoviruses, the disease begins with mild ailments, and the throat is very red. After a day or two, the temperature rises to 39 degrees, the child is adynamic, has no appetite, is very moody. Cough with sputum is also often present. It should be noted that children between the ages of 3 and 7 are particularly sensitive to adenoviral infection.

With the flu virus, the redness of the throat is less obvious, but the disease makes its debut "like a bolt from the blue". The temperature, like adenoviruses, reaches 39 degrees, but the cough is dry and painful, often the child complains of pain behind the sternum. The second day there are snot, and other manifestations of the common cold.

Such a dangerous infection as measles, in the early days is manifested only as a mild cold - the child has a red throat, he feels unwell, the temperature rises, cough, snot - that is, there are signs of a common infection. But this disease has a distinctive feature - small specks, which are bad messengers of measles. They appear on the inner surface of the cheeks on the second day of the illness. If in addition to the red throat in a child you noted the appearance of white spots with a red border on the inside of the cheeks - immediately consult a doctor! Requires surgical treatment, in order to avoid serious consequences!

Treatment of a red throat in a child

Treatment of a child who "picked up" the virus should first of all include compliance with bed rest, rinsing the throat with a solution of soda (2%), as well as wiping the eyes with a clean swab of cotton (pre-moisten it in warm water).

The child's diet should contain all the recommended foods according to age. Breastfeeds need to offer more breast. For children it is advisable to drink plenty of water (still water, milk, juices, compote), depending on how many years your baby and what foods you have already contributed to the diet.

Medications include antipyretic drugs (paracetamol, ibuprofen), ascorbic acid. If the nose is stuffy, use naphazoline, and if you have a wet cough, mucaltin, ambroxol or broncholitin.

It is important to note that if your child has ARVI - you should not buy and give him antibiotics! They do not have any action against the virus, and, therefore, one can not expect an effect from them.

Check the temperature 2 times a day, and if complications arise (repeated vomiting, convulsions, confused consciousness) - immediately call a doctor who decides whether to continue treatment of your child in the hospital.
