How to plant a currant in the fall: choosing a site and time

When choosing a site for planting, consider the fact that the currant is a light-loving plant. Therefore, it is suitable for southern, western-southern parts of your garden, preferably with a slight bias. By the way, it's nice to put a bush of currant at the fence, but most importantly - in a well-lit area. As for the type of soil, it is better to select areas with black earth for the red currant. But it grows not bad also on gray-forest, sandy loamy and loamy with humus soils.

Transplanting and planting of red currant should be carried out in early autumn - in the first two or three weeks of September. If you do this later, the roots of the plant will not strengthen in a new place, and then the bush will not bear the winter cold badly.

One to two weeks before the proposed landing, it is necessary to prepare a landing pit. First you need to dig a pit 40-45 cm deep and a diameter of 45-50 cm. At the bottom of the depression, you should place a humus bucket or a mixture of mineral fertilizers - 150 g of superphosphate, 35 g of potassium sulfate and 40 g of wood ash. Fertilizers need to be mixed with a small amount of land.

When planting red (as well as black) currant in the seedling, it is necessary to straighten the roots. We recommend planting the young plant in an inclined manner, which promotes accelerated root formation and improvement of the root system. Then the roots are neatly covered with earth and trampled down. After planting, the plant should be poured with a bucket of water and wrapped.

A little differently should be done when transplanting red currant in the fall. A transplant must be made when all the leaves fall on the bush. However, only young plants are recommended to be moved to a new place, the old ones are badly tolerated transplant and perish. Dig a hole, add fertilizer. If you transplant a few bushes, the distance between the pits should be 1-1.5 m. Carefully excavate the plant itself without injuring the roots, and plant.

If your bush is already old, it is better early in the autumn to cut from its branches several cuttings 15-20 cm long with 2-3 internodes with leaves. Plant them in the open ground inclined and pour.
