Tasty, aromatic pear is considered to be the culture of the southern regions. But there are sorts of wood that can be grown in the middle zone. They include the pear variety of Veles.
Pear "Veles" - description
This variety was derived by selectors N.V. Efimova and Yu.A. Petrov in VSTIP during the crossing of varieties "Forest Beauty" and "Venus" for cultivation in Moscow and the Moscow Region. By the way, the pear is also known under the name "Daughter of Excellent".
At the beginning of its development the beautiful crown of the variety differs spreading. With the growth of "Veles" it acquires a wide-pyramidal shape of the crown, and with an average degree of thickening with branches bent to the bottom. On thick brown-brown shoots spring develops smooth undulating leaves with thin and long petioles.
The description of the pear variety of Veles will be insufficient without mentioning the fruits. On large rings there are fruits of medium and large size. In general, the mass of one pear reaches 160-180 g, but some individual fruits can weigh 200 g. If we talk about the shape, it is symmetrically broadly pear-shaped without distinct ribbing. Peel of "Veles" can be described as smooth and clean. On the main greenish-yellow color there is a reddish coating in places. The flesh of fruit, having a juicy yellow structure, has a tender sweet and sour taste and is perfectly suitable for fresh consumption. But it is used with the same success for canning.
Self-fertility of the pear "Veles" is present, but small. To get as much harvest as possible, it is recommended to plant near other varieties of pears. To the pollinators, the pear of Veles includes the varieties Chizhovskaya , Severyanka and Rogneda.

In general, the tree belongs to the autumn varieties.
Advantages and disadvantages of the pear "Veles"
The main advantages of this variety include:
- high level of resistance to frost and piston;
- early entry into the harvest period (3-4 years);
- high yields and its stability;
- a commercial kind of fruit.
Unfortunately, the pear of "Veles" has its drawbacks, namely, the melting of fruits with large yields and the absence of pruning.
